No Experience NecessaryThe majority of our team starts without any experience rowing or coxing. All new members begin on the novice team. The coaches and varsity members will help you every step of the way.

2-Week Trial PeriodYour first two weeks of practice (at the start of the fall semester) are a free trial period. No commitment, just learning how to row.

Compete With NovicesMost of your novice teammates will be at the same stage in their rowing career as you, as will the majority of teams you will compete against in your first year on the team. Our novice team typically performs very well in the fall!

Part-time, full-time, graduate, undergrad, ANY CWRU student is welcome to join. Come to these events to learn about being in the club!
Sports-A-Palooza: Get to know more about the team and all of the other athletic opportunities CWRU offers. Take an up close look at one of our racing shells, and try out a rowing machine. Feat of Strength: We bring rowing machines to the dining hall so passers-by can test their strength. The one who can row 100 meters the fastest wins a T-shirt! Open Boathouse: Members of the team will meet you at the Ugly Statue and guide the group to the boathouse via the RTA Red Line. You'll meet team members, coaches, and get to know our equipment and our sport. S'mores Night: A casual night to kick back with free treats and where you can get to know us and ask us any questions. |

CoxswainsCoxswains are small in size but play a big role on the team, steering and directing the boat on and off the water.
Just like rowers, no experience is necessary to become a coxswain, and our varsity coxswains will teach you everything you need to know. We love our coxswains, and can't wait to have you join us!

PracticesOur team practices off site at Cleveland Rowing Foundation in Ohio City. For evening practices, the novice team takes the RTA to and from the boathouse. At the start of the year, one or more varsity members will accompany you. For fall morning and Saturday practices, the varsity team will drive novices to and from practice. Novices switch from evening practices to morning practices towards the end of November to join in on winter training. In the beginning of each semester before classes start, a calendar will be posted on this page and our Instagram for the open boathouse and learn-to-row sessions.
